Cool Kids Work Out... Soul Train


My niece is always starting a diet plan that ends as it begins. She tried to rope me into going to a gym with her… no young lady! I tried to consider taking fast walks… but the truth is I’m lazy. I hate workouts. Sometimes I get in the groove of it, but I’m soon not motivated enough to continue. I’ve tried Pilates… tried the aerobic videos, tried the personal trainers and even settled for wii yoga and boxing to keep in shape… but it’s been years. I’ve been considering getting a bicycle to at least ride around the house… I started swimming lessons but the lessons didn’t last long last year. In other words… I have no work out routine.

You see…I don’t feel like I need to work out. I am slim… and sometimes it feels like I’m a little too lean. Some friends gush about wanting to be as trim as I am. People assume I work out a lot because I look fit. I always shamefully give them a refund for their compliment… I don’t work out mate.
And so you see, I tell myself I don’t need to work out. Life and genes has pardoned me from the unpardonable human torture of trying to loose weight, but I have come to realize that the fact that I am slim doesn’t mean I don’t need to work out. Or the fact that you diet doesn’t downplay the importance of a good work out. There’s more to working out and eating healthy than just loosing weight. Its about being healthy, and loads of other benefits including a sound mind.

It’s the New Year. The time of resolutions and new slates… and on most peoples list comes the weight loss/work out resolve. The gyms are packed full as usual at this time of the year, with the new years resolution bunch, and the realist who just come in to burn off the guilt of the holiday binging, knowing it isn’t a routine they’ll be keeping through out the year.
The shops are shoving gym work out gears in our faces through massive sales campaign… appealing to our January after holiday guilt, and New Year resolutions.
Some would quit after the first day…  a joy for the true gym loyalists who feel like the impostors have invaded their personal space.

Exercise is good. I hope to get on that band wagon soon enough. I am tired of how out of breath I am when I walk up a flight of stairs. I jumped on a trampoline and almost passed out. I may be trim, but I am so out of shape.

Stay clear of silly stories that get dressed up as religion. Exercise daily in God—no spiritual flabbiness, please! Workouts in the gymnasium are useful, but a disciplined life in God is far more so, making you fit both today and forever. You can count on this. Take it to heart. This is why we’ve thrown ourselves into this venture so totally. We’re banking on the living God, Savior of all men and women, especially believers. 1 Timothy 4:7-8MSG)

The same way we deal with our bodies is the same way our Spirits need to be treated. Churches are all organizing a beginning of the year fast… like a work out program for the soul to get in shape for the New Year…  the perfect soul exercise and I see loads of people I usually don’t see in church jumping in on it, which is a good thing, but like the enthusiastic New Year resolutions gym people, after that, what’s next? Some grab this moment and that’s all the work out for their soul for the whole year and then go back to the exuberance of living for self, leaving their spirits flabby.
It’s as important to work out our soul regularly as it is with our body.
Paul writes to Timothy to exercise daily in God.
 
I’m none compliant with my body when it comes to keeping in shape, because I for one am comfortable with how I look in shape, I would probably jump on the treadmill if I notice the weight coming in like an express train. But I can’t afford to be that way with my spirit, to feel like a lean mean fit machine in Spirit and so I become complacent in building myself, because, somehow I have arrived. I may look it and feel like the ideal Christian, and then I find out I’m out of breath when it comes to the little things… like trusting and having faith even for the littlest things, or getting panic attacks when I am faced with little oppositions.

We cant be spiritually lazy and lay hold of destiny. We must be intentional on setting our mind. Toure Robert

We must be intentional in keeping our Spirit in shape, in keeping them fit as much as we should with our bodies. We loose out on laying hold on somethings when we have unfit Spirits.
You may be a great Christian, but that doesn’t stop you from working out your Spirit… you need to keep in shape in order to dominate your world like the child of God that you are. We cant have great looking Christians getting out of breath at the slightest trial, or form of adversity, can we? We wouldn’t sweat the small stuff as fit Christians.

There’s so many ways to keep fit as a Christian… and trust me, it isn’t as tedious as running on a treadmill or throwing some hoops. Here's a few soul train/Spirit training ideas... 

Go on the treadmill of right thinkingDon’t spend time thinking about things that only end up causing you pain, stirring up fear and discord and uncovering emotions that are better left behind.
Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies. Philippians 4:8-9

Praying! Especially praying in the spirit
Praying without ceasing isn’t as complicated and demanding as we feel it is. You don’t have to have closed eyes and closed rooms to pray to God. The prayer muttered under your breath. The ‘thank you Jesus’ you sigh at that meeting… it’s simply acknowledging God, carrying Him along as you go through the day and make decisions, not necessarily freaking people out with screams any and everywhere, there's a place for that and there's a place for under your breath prayers.
Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the Spirit, with all [manner of] prayer and entreaty. To that end keep alert and watch with strong purpose and perseverance, interceding in behalf of all the saints (God's consecrated people). Ephesians 6:18
Sing songs of worship… your worship is your prayer as well…
Let the Word of Christ - the Message - have the run of the house. Give it plenty of room in your lives. Instruct and direct one another using good common sense. And sing, sing your hearts out to God! Colossians 3:16(msg)

Eat healthy… Junk food will eventually take its toll on your body as it will on your spirit. Eat healthy… feast on the pure nutritious milk of the word of God. There's so much spewing around especially in this age of social media, from hateful comments, to lies and slanders and foolish gossip... junk junk junk! Get rid of all that, let the word and the Spirit of God fill you with love, boldness and a sound mind/sensibility.
 So put aside every trace of malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander and hateful speech; like newborn babies [you should] long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may be nurtured and grow in respect to salvation [its ultimate fulfillment], if in fact you have [already] tasted the goodness and gracious kindness of the Lord. 1 peter 2:2-3

Lift weights of love… We are called to love, and we love because we received the Father’s love. Love is patient, kind, not jealous or boastful, rude and so much more(I Corinthians 13)
Watch what God does, and then you do it, like children who learn proper behavior from their parents. Mostly what God does is love you. Keep company with him and learn a life of love. Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn’t love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us. Love like that. Ephesians 5:1-2

Burn some calories with dancing… Praise looks good on you. Sing to God, dance to Him. Let your praise pour out to Him for who He is, God inhabits the praise of His people… he delights in our rejoicing in His presence. What a fun way to keep your Spirit fit. Give Him your best moves even if it has no rhythm, He’s right there dancing with you… it’s always uplifting spending time in praise and dancing before God.
Let them praise His name with the dance;
Let them sing praises to Him with the timbrel and harp. Psalm 149:3

Set goals… Keep going at it, don’t stop… forget the past achievements and failures and strive for even more… keep moving towards the mark, we are being perfected each day, and the only way we miss it is if we stop moving. You’re trim today and maybe even in shape, its not the time to fold up your work out gear, it’s the time to keep going.
Not that I have already obtained it [this goal of being Christlike] or have already been made perfect, but I actively press on so that I may take hold of that [perfection] for which Christ Jesus took hold of me and made me His own.  Brothers and sisters, I do not consider that I have made it my own yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the [heavenly] prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Phil 3:13-14

There's so much more work out routines for our Spirits. Lets not get weary in doing good... keeping up with our daily exercise. A healthy Spirit is a life of dominion, peace, joy and good success.

Armed Forces Remembrance...

--> Wing Commander Chimda Hedima 1975 - 2014.
On 11/09/14, a company of NA soldiers attempted to overrun a Boko Haram position in Borno. Due to the low altitude, the plane suffered significant damage from the terrorists' gun fire. Wing Commander Hedima and his partner realized that they were going to crash.
Instead of hurriedly parachuting to safety within Nigerian controlled territory, they chose to embark on a mission to destroy as many terrorists and their weapons as possible. They parachuted out at the last minute but not before ensuring their plane slammed into a column of terrorists in which 63 Boko Haram members were killed as a result of their bravery.
Wing Commander Hedima was captured. On 12/09/14, he was killed by the Boko Haram.
He chose Nigeria, he chose all of us. We cannot forget him. Please share his story. His name should be known by everyone.
Rest In Peace Commander, we are grateful.
May you find eternal peace in the bosom of the almighty God.

That was a write up for wing commander Chimda I read two years ago.

His unnamed partner is wing commander Dele Braimoh. Scoro as we fondly call him…. It’s been a little over two years since I’ve hoped that we would get news that he’s alive and well somewhere. I can’t imagine what his wife and little boy and girl whom he dotted on are going through.
I’ve known him since I was a little girl, when he was just a flight lieutenant, a friend of the house, till he became my friend as well.
He loved what he did. He was proud of what he did.
He spoke with pride and so much ease about what isn’t so easy to do. How he loved it… the fact that he could fly a jet faster than the speed of sound. He kind of loved bragging about it, and he had every right to, because he was good at it.
For the love of this country, for my safety and yours…. He fought; he flew over enemy territory and did the best he could.
His last updated profile picture on whatsapp represented what he was proud of… flying!
I’ve put off doing a post, because it feels so unfair, like I have bowed to the conclusion that he’s really gone.
I choose foolishness, the foolishness of hope. The foolishness that a friendship hasn’t been cut off just like that. That a man hasn’t been taken from his young family, just like that.

Oga Scoro, I’m foolish enough to choose what story I want to choose after two years, that maybe, just maybe he parachuted out and like some Hollywood movie, he’ll be found. A body brings closure… no body ignites a flicker of hope.

Today is the armed forces Remembrance Day… and this post is dedicated to Wing Commander Dele Braimoh, hoping he comes home to his family soon.
To all the lives that have been lost in fighting for our peace in this country… May God comfort their families for the sacrifices they’ve lost.
For the wives and husbands of all those fighting for us… I pray for grace to live each day in hope, knowing that God is protecting your husbands and fathers.

And to those serving gallant men of our joint forces… I salute you. I pray for strength and for wisdom, I pray for protection and grace. Thank you for sacrificing so much to bring sanity and peace to our nation.
Thank you for your bravery.
Thank you for loving your country enough, even when we don’t give you the best you deserve.

Pastor Steven Furtick of Elevation church has released another power packed declaration to start the year with.
I loved “I will fight” and I love this just as much.
It reminds me that we are not tempted beyond what we can handle… that whatever comes our way, we can handle because Christ already dealt with it on the cross.

I can do all things… when fear comes knocking; I’m answering with faith!

Looking Back...

 Sometimes, we dwell in the midst of things that are harmful to us… but we are sort of blended in that as much as we know it’s wrong, we dwell still because of the  “there’s nothing I can do about it… this is where I belong” mentality.
As wrong as it is, and as right as you are in all that wrong, the solution isn’t to sit put. God will literally drag us out of that situation especially after he has sent the signs to show us that we ought to be out of there and we pay no heed.
Lets say a relationship that feels right, but then there’s the cheating and the lying and the abuse, the subtle hints sent to get you moving on, but you sit pretty being right in the wrong… when you ignore all the signs, the next step will be to drag you away from the midst of all that one way or the other.

When Lot still hesitated, the angels seized his hand and the hands of his wife and two daughters and rushed them to safety outside the city, for the lord was merciful. When they were safely out of the city, one of the angels ordered, “Run for your lives! And don’t look back or stop anywhere in the valley! Escape to the mountains, or you will be swept away!”………
But Lot’s wife looked back as she was following behind him, and she turned into a pillar of salt. (Genesis 19:16-17, 26)

Lot was literally dragged out from the midst of all the wrong they were rightly dwelling in in Sodom by the angels of God and specific instructions were given, “don’t look back” but someone did… lots wife. There’s really nothing to look back to when you’ve been delivered from something… you remember sometimes, but looking back takes you back in your mind and causes a jolt of nostalgia that can get you crawling back to your vomit… to the destructions God saved you from.
When you remember, please don’t look back.
You see, looking back leaves you stagnant and rooted in that wrong that will eventually destroy you.
We wonder why Lots wife looked back, there are so many theories about that. But lets look at it with the eyes of today’s world.
Lot was a wealthy man in Sodom. A man with lots of properties who was dragged away from it all, so that means he didn’t have time to grab a bag, hardly any time to arrange for the Ferrari and Rolls Royce and Ranges and Maserati to be sent out of town, not even the choppers and private planes could be arranged for evacuation, or the original rare oil paintings, his horses, the best polo ponies to be found in the area.
Imagine leaving behind so many things that don’t matter when it comes to life and death situations but are obviously valuable…  all the time, wisdom and resources invested.
Lot may have been brave enough to let go, but his wife looked back at the lovely house she just finished redecorating, with furniture she imported from all over Europe... the antique pieces she sourced from auction houses for the rooms… The diamonds that sat pretty in her safe boxes… the out of the world wardrobe that was talked about in the whole town, because of the exquisite pieces she had stocked up; shoes, bags and couture outfits. The childhood pictures of her daughters… her beautiful gardens and all the plans for the best party ever she would never get to throw and show off her new furniture.
Legit reasons to look back.

Maybe you’re looking back because… well you know you did some unethical things on the job, but look at the commissions you got. The perks, the security of having a job. Well maybe your boss looks like a scene from hell, and you hated what you had to do sometimes to grab those deals…  but all the right you had in the midst of all that wrong made the sting of the unbearable a little better to bear.
Maybe you’re looking back, because he’s so fine… you looked so good together, how can you leave all that? In the midst of the cheating and the abuse, he was funny and sometimes he smiled real good at you and gave you nice things… how can you leave all that behind… when there were right moments in the midst of all that wrong? Are you really willing to leave that all behind? To be called a divorcee? Maybe the bruises aren’t so bad…

Looking back gives you a sense of longing for what was, It pulls you back to the thing you should be moving away from… it makes you feel like you’ve experienced a loss and clouds your mind, covers the beauty of the future, makes you wonder if the uncertainty is worth the trouble. The future is unfamiliar, thus you look at the familiar past with all the wrongs and your clouded mind only sees the right in the midst of that wrong, and that pinch of right in your vulnerable state of mind is enough to pale all the wrong.  Remember, God wouldn’t take you out of something, if He hasn’t prepared to bring you into something even better… something more than you have left behind.
“Forget about what’s happened;
don’t keep going over old history.
Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new.
It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it? Isaiah 43:18-19a(MSG)
You may have made loads of mistakes in the past... minute, year or week. Don't look back dwelling on it... even that too can suck you in. Get over your mistakes and move on in Gods grace and love. God loves you and isn't holding it against you, why turn into a pillar of condemnation over something that has become nothing by the cleansing blood of Jesus.  You fell, get up and move on.(Proverbs 24:16)

The last year and years are gone.
On the other hand, maybe it wasn’t a bad yesterday/year/job, and there were lots of rights and so little wrongs from what you’ve been called out from. Maybe the job you feel led to leave isn’t the kind with wrongs and a sprinkle of right but so many rights with just a speck of wrong… move on. Don’t stay put dwelling on one victory that you lose focus on the future. Yes you had a good year, but there’s so much more to come… so much more, and its crazy to camp around that victory, to camp around how good a year it was that you don’t move on to the glory of the coming. Move on. Don’t look back and turn into a pile of salt, stuck on the past. Have you heard people tell stories of something great they did years ago? Its good to reminisce, but the problem with these people is they’ve turned into a pile of salt, because there’s been no more achievement after that great one in 1900’s, all they do is talk about it because they failed to move beyond that victory to do more, live past it to get even more victories in the future.

I’ve had some great moments in my life, and you know, I always wonder why the high doesn’t last beyond the moment, why I feel dissatisfied almost immediately, while others are still celebrating me, I feel restless, I realized I feel that way because there is more, I could chose to remain rooted in that little victory, a local champion of that moment for the rest of my life, or I could move on and achieve more and be more. Leave the past with all the victories, defeats and mistakes and move into the future as unclear as it is, and conquer more dreams and more glory. The word of God says, our paths are like the morning sun, shining brighter and brighter till its full day(Proverbs 4:18)… meaning, it’s one victory unto another one… and it’s always bigger than the last, even if looks smaller.

Like Lot, ask for grace to resist the gravity pulling you towards looking back to the past and getting stuck on it…

Baby It's Cold Outside... Baby It's Dark Outside.


It’s hard to wake up on cold dark winter mornings. Your body tells you its still night, and looking out of your window, your eyes try to convince your mind that your body is right as it shows you its still dark outside, so why don’t you snuggle in and sleep some more? The only thing you should listen to in these moments is your clock and your appointments for the morning.
I’m lucky I don’t have to go through this morning struggle all the time, for one, I don’t have to experience winter as often as it comes, (I have the harmattan alternative to enjoy) and because sometimes, I’m dragging myself to bed when people are just waking up to get ready for the day. I’m nocturnal like that. I work through the night, and in-between that, get distracted from doing what’s important by social media and sometimes a Cary Grant movie or two.  So I have a legit reason to sleep half way through the winter mornings.

My nieces on the other hand have my sympathy… I hear them move about preparing for school so early on those cold mornings and I feel so sorry they still have more years of school. How cruel for anyone to be out of the comfort of their duvet.
But some days I have to be up earlier than my beauty sleep approves. Drag myself to bed late and have to be up pretty early, to the dull darkness of a cold morning… with not a flutter or chirp of a bird outside to give the day a little life… and by the time I stumble through a scalding hot shower and bundling myself up in layers to meet my waiting cab, and sometimes a nice cup of hot chocolate to go, I’m ready for the day. It’s still quite dark and foggy and freezing, but its day and I’m on the move as a whole lot of other people too as the road and train station isn’t empty, and soon enough the light catches up with us. A little sun here, a little sun there, and a bustling life out of the dark morning.

The call of the comfort of a warm bed is pretty enticing and even sometimes legit, but we have to remind ourselves that the fact that its still dark outside doesn’t mean it isn’t morning and the world has started to move and live the day with or without us.
Proverbs 6:10 says A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest— that's all it takes t miss out on a lot.
Don’t let the darkness keep you bonded and deceived that its still night… when you look at the clock and it says morning, you owe it to yourself to wake up and prepare for the day by what the time says and not what your comfort zone sweet whispers to you. I have considered scrapping plans one too many times because of those sweet whispers.

When God says its morning, take His word for it and believe… Don’t wait till you see the manifestation, a hint of light outside, before you believe and start preparing for the day or else you’ll find out you’re late for the party because you got played by comfort zone. Stop waiting for signs or you'll be so late!
In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. James 2:17
The ultimate sign of morning is the clock... the ultimate sign from God for everything we need and every promise He's given is Jesus... His death, burial and resurrection. That's all the sign we need to know that it's morning for us... it's time to live and take over our world.
Our faith is not by sight for we walk by faith, not by sight [living our lives in a manner consistent with our confident belief in God’s promises]— 2 Corinthians 5:7(AMP)

When God calls you blessed as His word says we are… take His word for it and behave as the blessed one. Leave the warm comfort zone of self-pity and condemnation and start your morning as the blessed one and you will see indeed the truth in it. “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.” Ephesians 1:3

When He says He loves you… "I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.” Jeremiah 31:3 Believe His word and stop looking at all the things you are not that disqualifies you for His love. Its not about what you see, its about what He says… you may not be perfect in your ways, you may fall sometimes in your walk… but that’s just the deceit of the cold winter morning getting you to snuggle back in the bed of sin and self condemnation… you may not be perfect, but the word says you are loved, so get with the time and out of the comfort of your fall and condemnation and act like the one who is loved, get a hot shower, wear a warm dress and move out about your life as the loved one. Its beyond what you see… how can we ever enjoy any goodness, and receive any promises from Gods words if we don’t walk only by faith?

Elisha’s servant got up early and went out (2 Kings 6:15) and he saw a great army circled around the city. He was panicked. You see, he looked out of the window early in the morning, and it was still dark… his eyes saw the Aramean army… but he didn’t see the manifestation of the word of God that promises protection for his own. It was a dark winter early morning, and panic was the only comfort he could warm himself with, he was moved by the sight of all those against him, until Elisha who had the consciousness of the manifestation prayed for his eyes to open, and then he saw an even greater army surrounding and chariots of fire surrounding them. It’s all about what you choose to see when you wake up… what’s against you or what’s for you.
Whatever comes against you… when God says in His word He will never leave or forsake you… Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." Deuteronomy 31:6 take His word for it… beyond what you see and believe, because when the light of the day comes, you’ll see that He truly was with you all the way through whatever it is you’ve been through or are going through. There’s so much for you than against you as a beloved child of God.

We’ve all received words for this year… we’re all excited and ready to conquer… don’t get discouraged if it still feels like night time of last year with the economy making your dream look dark and drab… get up and move. Don’t wait for the ‘right’ time, for things to look good/bright before stepping out… or you’ll remain in that comfort zone of the warm bed, waiting for things to be better and before you know it, it’s the end of the year, and you just wasted more time and delayed birthing something beautiful.
He who watches the wind [waiting for all conditions to be perfect] will not sow [seed], and he who looks at the clouds will not reap [a harvest].  Ecclesiastes 11:14

Baby it’s cold outside… maybe it’s even dark outside, but morning has come, wake up and live your dream and purpose… as you ignore the cold blues and darkness and move into the day you’ve been promised and given, light will eventually come, and the day will be an active hub as you conquer it!

2017... Happy New Year.

Happy New year!!!
Some nights ago, before I drifted off to sleep, I was praying, more like reflecting and givng God thanks for the year, then I remember my grandma and the tears started flowing, and I knew I could give myself a reason to stop with the thanks, but thank God that in the midst of my tears, I found a reason to thank God her in 2016, she left towards the end of the year... God gave us a beautiful year with her... I remember how we danced with her just as we entered 2016... it was a good year, even with the pain of her death and burial.
I'm so thankful... there's always something to be thankful for.

So excited about this year... tried to do a post, but couldn't get myself still enough to bring out all the thoughts in my head. So I'll just share this video and words I posted on Instagram.

"Those who know their God shall be strong and do exploits" Daniel 11:32... I'll rephrase to "those who know how much God loves them shall be strong and do great exploits!  Go into the new year in strength and do great exploits by holding on to the truth that God loves you completely!  If He does, how can you fail? How can you be afraid to step out knowing you can't fail? There's unprecedented prosperity and harvest as you step out. It's time to "Arise, Shine, for your light has come and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you" Isaiah 60:1 Worship like you've never done, pray like you've never done and succeed and prosper like you've never done!  I pray that the dreams that have been held in your hearts for years be birth, may it become flesh, and may you hold them in your hands, nurture them and send them into the world to be a blessing.  You are a child of a good good Father, a God who loves you... And the world has waited too long for you to manifest! Now it's the time to TAKE OVER and walk this world as a beloved son of God that you are.  Enjoy Gods unlimited favour, love, grace and mercy in this new year and all your days!

If He does, how can you fail? How can you be afraid to step out knowing you can't fail? There's unprecedented prosperity and harvest as you step out.
