Fast Track...

It was summer, thus it wasn't surprising that the immigration queue at Heathrow terminal 5 was as long as eternity, or so it seemed. Thus we sashayed to the fast track lane, why stand on a long queue when there’s a shorter cut and we have a pass to it? We were about ten persons away from the immigration desk. I felt sorry for the people who had to join the general queue.

They had the last laugh though. We hovered on the fast track short queue for ages while those who came after us moved on real fast on that long long queue, they left us on the ironic fast track lane. It was frustrating and I considered switching lanes and wondered why we didn’t just patiently wait out on the other line.

We finally got to the immigration desk; long after most people on our flight had gone.

What’s the joy of priority anything, if there would be fewer people to attend to them? There was only one desk assigned to us and the officer seemed to delight in wasting time with each passenger like he was meeting them for tea and playing catch up.

The fastest route isn’t always the fastest and best way. Fast track isn’t always fast, what its cut out to look like.

Waiting patiently on God when He’s given you instruction to wait may seem like that extremely long queue, but if He says wait, then wait… You’re moving really fast as long as your wait and standing still is on Gods word. Don’t take things into your own hands trying to do things your way as you watch your friends go on the fast track…. You’ll be sure to fail, while those who wait eventually overtake. Remember Elijah? A man in God’s will who outran a chariot. Ahab went ahead of him in his own strength of power and possession, on the fast track with his chariot, Elijah started out later and arrived before him on foot, because he moved in God’s strength. (1 Kings 18:46)

But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired. Isaiah 40:31

Remember the way of faith is not longer; it’s not as long as you imagine it to be. Your standing still waiting on God is more speed than you can imagine. Those on the long queue may have looked on with envy when they saw our short queue, but in the end, they went through before us. Most times we see unbelievers having it good and we look at ourselves and wonder why we bother waiting, when we can have that much success doing it their way. But God is doing things His way, just trust. Psalm 37:1-13 in the message translation is so apt (unbelievers are referred to as bad guys/wicked)

“Don’t bother your head with braggarts

or wish you could succeed like the wicked.

In no time they’ll shrivel like grass clippings

and wilt like cut flowers in the sun.

Get insurance with God and do a good deed,

settle down and stick to your last.

Keep company with God,

get in on the best.

Open up before God, keep nothing back;

he’ll do whatever needs to be done:

He’ll validate your life in the clear light of day

and stamp you with approval at high noon.

Quiet down before God,

be prayerful before him.

Don’t bother with those who climb the ladder,

who elbow their way to the top.

Bridle your anger, trash your wrath,

cool your pipes—it only makes things worse.

Before long the crooks will be bankrupt;

God-investors will soon own the store.

Before you know it, the wicked will have had it;

you’ll stare at his once famous place and—nothing!

Down-to-earth people will move in and take over,

relishing a huge bonanza.

Bad guys have it in for the good guys,

obsessed with doing them in.

But God isn’t losing any sleep; to him

The arm of flesh will certainly fail you, launching out in your own strength and in your own way will eventually burn you out, trust in God, launch out in His strength, wait on Him and you will not be shamed or disappointed in the end.
